Typical generalized questions
1. Do you have wait times for your builds? How do I hold a build position/slot?
A; Yes, typically there is a waiting list., that’s why there is a required down payment of 20% of the total cost. At the moment of deposit, a receipt and purchase agreement will be issued with payment deadlines and build requirements stated there in. We try to schedule light duty’s over the winter months primarily and full size vardos thru the warmer months, this helps with the speed of paint curing times (but is completely possible to accomplish vardo builds thru the winter months, our shop is heated, one of the joys of Michigan), we also build light duties through the summer months as well.
2. How do payments work when purchasing?
A;1.20% down, to *hold build position/time & Pre order the running gear/trailer base. 2. Followed by 3/4 of remaining cost 2 weeks prior to starting date so materials can be acquired for the start date. 3. Remainder upon completion.
3. How are payments excepted? We use Quickbooks processing for invoicing and card payments.
A; Credit card, debt card, processing fee of 3.4% added to grand total.
Or Cashiers check.
4. Do you offer DIY builds and or building plans?
A; No, All campers/projects leave the premises completed, No exceptions.
5. Do you have financing?
A; Sorry we do not do financing, most lending institutes must have a state issued titled serial number to issue loans on camper/caravans. We can not issue serial numbers to any caravans without being completed and DOT inspected per state laws , which in turn complicates loans due to it being issued *after the completion of the build. A unsecured Personal loan may be a best option if financing is needed.
6. How are titles issued?
A; Tiles are issued as a, “Certificate of origin” a common title for new trailers, which you take to your States DMV for transfer and registration to your name. This is were you pay for the transfer of title and sale tax to your state. Some states require inspection prior to transfer. All of our trailers meet DOT regulation requirements. Required brake lighting layout as required per DOT laws. States requirements vary between states on campers, so check your requirements prior to ordering.
7. Why isn’t your company RVIA certified/approved? This would help me get approved for an Rv loan.
A; As much as we would like to and we eventually will. The cost associated is Astronomical for a small business to pay forward, thousands of dollars for yearly starting fee, and then 1k plus, per every camper built there after every year. We hope to accomplish certs in the future to ease with purchasing, but no resolve in sight as of the moment.
8. How do I insure my camper?
A; State to state variations on insurance vary per state. In our state for example (Michigan, we present our title, weight slip and bill of sale from the manufacture to the insurance provider and express the cost of the purchase of the trailer be covered in a policy for insurance coverage. Some states require the same, then placed on home owners coverage, some a simple inspection will surmise. There are certain states that require a slew of hoops to jump thru for proper coverage, *Do your Due Diligence, Check your insurance provider and states laws and requirements prior for insurance coverage.
9. Can the caravan be built with the door facing the tongue instead of the rear?
A; No, From trial and error we do not advise this. The pressure from the speed of the vehicle, with the added pressure of the wind & weather conditions is a lot to ask of a door, especially in a rain storm, (Hurricane conditions) this is why you do not see forward facing doors on commercial campers.
10. What size vehicles can tow your Vardos?
A; Good rule of thumb a V8 vehicle is the best or an equivalate V6 turbo truck/SUV should be adequate, **refer to your vehicles towing capacity. Fully loaded Vardo camper average around 3,900 lbs to 4,300 lbs. reasonably depending on options. **Hint, if you have never towed anything, do not get close to the max pulling weight if possible, it is not fun towing at max capacity.
11. What do you consider lighter duty models for smaller mini vans and SUV’s?
A; We started producing light duty trailers for the sole purpose of smaller vehicle’s pulling capacity. Lighter duty would include the Tudor, Teapot, and Smaller Vending trailers. We do not offer a light duty vardo, closest model for light duty vardo would be the Teapot model.
12. How much accessories/options can I add into the light duty models?
A; We advise, if your purpose of owning one of the light duty trailers is to save weight, you keep your options to a minimum to keep the weight down. Adding to many options will move it away from the capabilities of a smaller vehicle pulling capabilities for which it was *designed for in the first place. If weight is no issue, options are listed on appropriate page.
13. Can you or will you build customers DIY campers to finish at their own discretion?
A; Sorry, we will not entertain the idea for partially built units, ALL units/campers we leave the premises in a completed form, No Exceptions. This ensures the quality meets our expectations.
14. Can I pick any color I wish?
A; Most certainly you can. A few suggestions in picking your color scheme. We typically suggest you pick your color, 1-2 shades darker down the color scale. Due to us using high gloss paints and the reflect of outdoor light, 1-2 shades darker by trail and error seem to be a good rule of thumb. Vardos come with the customers choice of a base color and a trim color, additional as per an option.
15. Are there typical color schemes of traditional vardos/caravans?
A; Yes there are, typically dark burgundy, dark green, dark blue, trimmed in a light buttercup.
16. Do you suggest bright colors?
A; Yes and no, as exciting as brilliant colors seem, the results can be less then impressive not to mention when adding decorating it creates a busy effect which is overwhelming.
17. Is the cedar roofing material really suitable for highway speeds?
A; Yes, We use #1 Clear Select Fancy cut shingles, these are top tier building materials not avaliable at a home box center. Cedar ironically has better wind resistance then asphalt shingles, cedar @ 173 mph winds, where asphalt is 150 mph @ ***only 3 seconds. But…here’s the key point, the manner installed and underlayment comes into play, which we have refined over time. We have even had good experience with steam bent shingles on our builds for arched roofing also in the past. We have had no issues to date using them, we would not use them otherwise.
19. Can I change the floor plan/layout of the vardo campers?
A; Aside from the established floor options, We can do modifications as long as we are not re inventing the wheel per say. Reason being, build times become unpredictable as well as costs.
20. Can I change the floor plan/layout of the Tudor camper?
A; Yes, being the light duty campers have a small interior, the bed should be placed at the rearward point widthwise to conserve space or two single beds lengthwise.
21. Is there any colors you do not paint?
A; Yes; Yellow as a main color is the only color we will not paint as a Main body color, Trim yes. Yellow is extremely difficult to paint due to its transparency and consumes twice as much paint.
22. Do you offer exterior showers?
A; Possibility is there.
23. Can I have a shower or toilet installed in the light weight campers?
A; Shower yes, in Tudor campers, *only.
24. Do you at least offer composting toilets since you do not offer flushing toilets?
A; Yes, we can create an area for a composting toilet, but in the likeliness of sacrificing cabinetry is a possibility.
